Wondering what to wear to your upcoming photo session? Follow the tips below to help you and your family choose the perfect outfit!
1. Wear something that makes you feel comfortable
This is the most important tip! If you feel comfortable and happy in the outfit you choose, you will enjoy the session and your joy will shine through in the photos! The same rules apply for your kids; choosing a scratchy fabric or clothing that is too heavy or light will make your kids unhappy! Pick practical, comfortable, weather-appropriate clothing so that everyone has a great time.
2. Choose a color palette of soft, neutral colors
Pick a set of 2-4 coordinating colors and choose everyone’s outfit with that color palette in mind. I recommend neutral color tones or muted pastel colors, since this will complement both you and the natural environment!
3. Incorporate subtle patterns and mix textures
Mixing in a floral print or a different texture can add interest to your photos and show off your personal style. Long dresses with flowing skirts also work well. Feel free to mix soft patterns with solid colors!
4. Choose one outfit first
Feeling stuck? If so, I recommend you choose one outfit first, and then coordinate the other outfits based off of that one.
5. Dress for the weather
Dress kids for the weather, especially on cold days. Layering is key — kids can take off a layer if they warm up while moving around. You can also achieve multiple “looks” for the photos this way!
6. Avoid T-shirts, large logos, and graphics
These outfit choices can be a big distraction. We want to be looking at YOU and your gorgeous family, not graphics on a T-shirt!
7. Let older kids help choose their outfits from your selections
Letting your kids help choose their outfits can get them excited for the photoshoot! I highly recommend picking out 2-3 outfits for your child to choose from and allowing them to pick their favorite.
